English as Additional Language (EAL) students at Horizon Community College

Welcome

Horizon Community College has a rapidly-growing, significant and diverse EAL student population, which is a new trend within Barnsley MBC. Our ethos promotes a welcoming, inclusive, safe and stress-free environment within College and the students’ bilingualism (and sometimes multilingualism) is recognised as a positive part of their intellectual development.

We provide additional opportunities for the students to use their home language to support their learning and development of English together with promoting British Values.

Upcoming CPD/ Training Opportunities

Leading EAL across the school

Thursday 28th November:  4.00 to 6.00pm

This session will be led by Mark Neesam (Strategic Lead for Community Languages) and Nino Watson (EAL Co-ordinator) at Horizon Community College. The aims of the session will be to look at leading and managing EAL provision within a secondary context and how to maximise these students progress, including the use of the Oxford Online Placements test as a way of benchmarking.

To book a place, please contact Nino Watson via email nwatson@horizoncc.co.uk
