Horizon has received a glowing report from OFSTED, following a visit at the end of the summer term. The college was judged ‘Good’ in all categories. The report - a copy of which can be seen here – notes that, ‘Attainment has improved rapidly in all year groups since the College opened’, and that, ‘…students make good progress in mathematics and English’. In addition the report states that, ‘Progress in all other subjects shows an equally positive picture’. Proud Principal, Nick Bowen, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted with our OFSTED report and this year’s examination results. They both reflect accurately the huge success that Horizon Community College is having in raising achievement in this area and the positive impact it is having on the local community. The very good report and examination results gives us the perfect platform to push on to be outstanding and to really ensure a bright future for our young people and for the community of Barnsley’.
Friday 4 July was a special day for Horizon Community College; HRH Princess Anne dropped by after visiting Citizen’s Advice Bureau in the town centre and Riding for the Disabled.
Principal Nick Bowen said “it’s great for Barnsley that the Princess Royal is visiting and she will visit Horizon, the biggest of Barnsley’s fantastic new school buildings”.
On Tuesday 1st July Mr Robson, Mr Powell and a talented group of year 8 students went to the Trentham Estate in Staffordshire to compete in the National Enterprise Championship 2014. At the beginning of the year over 20.000 students took part in a bespoke enterprise challenge and our year 8 team managed to win a prestigious place in the National Finals.
After pitching their unique product to business executives the team had the privilege to listen to a question and answer session with business guru and dragon’s den star Theo Paphitis.
