IMG_5406Thursday 6th November was a significant day at Horizon Community College; as our students attended both a Remembrance assembly and formal service, appropriately timed at 11.00am.

The Remembrance assembly was presented by eight students, Horizon staff and members of our wider community. It was a sombre occasion, where students learnt about the First World War and were able to show their respect to ALL those who have lost their lives or loved ones through conflict over the years. It was also very pleasing to see so many pupils from all Year groups purchasing poppies both before and after their assemblies. Click here to read more.

The stars of the event were the young people from year 11 who collected their awards. CANDYLAND the Dance Show - HUGE SUCCESS!!

The pupils in Candyland show have been amazing, fantastic, wonderful.... I could go on.... over the two nights and were a credit to the school. They have been a pleasure to work with and as a dance department we are so proud and have been blown away by all their performances and sheer hard work that has been put into the show.

We have also raised around £800 for Sheffield children's hospital. A special thanks is owed to Nataile Kerr for arranging and organising all this. I have never seen show refreshments look so stunning. The show also wouldn't have been possible without the amazing Theatre Technicians: Jim and Alex. Thank you again for all your hardwork and support you have given. Thank you to all involved - Miss. Martin - Head Of Dance

  • OFSTED visit: we’re GOOD!

Horizon has received a glowing report from OFSTED, following a visit at the end of the summer term. The college was judged ‘Good’ in all categories. The report - a copy of which can be seen here – notes that, ‘Attainment has improved rapidly in all year groups since the College opened’, and that, ‘…students make good progress in mathematics and English’. In addition the report states that, ‘Progress in all other subjects shows an equally positive picture’. Proud Principal, Nick Bowen, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted with our OFSTED report and this year’s examination results. They both reflect accurately the huge success that Horizon Community College is having in raising achievement in this area and the positive impact it is having on the local community. The very good report and examination results gives us the perfect platform to push on to be outstanding and to really ensure a bright future for our young people and for the community of Barnsley’.
